Oxy-Fuel Technologies For Boosting And 100% Conversions Of Cross Fired Furnaces

Oxy-boosting technologies for two catergories of cross-fired furnaces: volatile (borosilicate) and non-volatile (soda-lime-silica and TV panel glasses) are considered. Many borosilicate glass tanks have converted to 100% oxy-fuel; case studies demonstrate the benefits of increased tonnage and lowered energy demand and NOx emissions using a staged, flat flame burner technology. The decision to convert oxy-fuel for other glass types typically is made on a case by case basis. It is shown through a set of case studies that BOC's CGM advanced melting system can increase tonnage and quality on both oxy-boosted and 100% oxy-fuel furnaces.
