Oxy-Fuel Firing For Emissions Control On A Container Melter

The need to increase perfume bottle production and tightening environmental regulations called for Vitro to install a 100% oxy-fuel system in a 35 ton/day furnace in one of its container plants in Mexico City. NOx emissions of less than 1lb of NOx per US short ton were obtained even at the highest glass pull rate, and particulates were 70% lower compared to a similar regenerative furnace. A lower capital investment compared to a new regenerative furnace was achieved.
