Owens-Illinois To Close Hayward Plant

Owens-Illinois Inc will not rebuild its glass container manufacturing plant at Hayward, California. The facility has been out of production since June this year when it experienced a major leak in its only glass furnace. The plant will officially close on Nov 17/03. Glass containers formerly manufactured at the Hayward plant will be manufactured at the Oakland and Tracy, California plants and in other company facilities. Around 170 employees will be affected.
