The International Commission on Glass (ICG) was founded in 1933 and has members in 32 countries. Every 3 years an International Congress on Glass is held; for other years an annual meeting is organised by one of the member organisations. Supervised by the Co-ordinating Technical Committee, there are 21 active areas totalling more than 350 members who are expert in their particular fields drawn selectively from universities, institutions and industry. With more than 50% of the technical committee members employed in the glass industry, this structure provides an excellent vehicle for communication and exchange of information between industry and academia. This paper presents an overview of areas of interest of all committees, which vary from basic science to pure technology.
