Optimisation Of Vitreous Enamelling Processing Technology

Vitreous enamelling on steel is carried out to produce a composite material with excellent corrosion resistance. The interfacial reactions between the glass and steel have previously been investigated and studied using analytical techniques including scanning electron microscopy. The knowledge gained has been implemented by evaluating and re-defining process settings. Alterations made to enamel drying and firing stages of the process change the reaction kinetics at the glass-metal interface. These physical properties have been assessed and quantified using electron microscopy techniques.
