Optical Properties Of Glasses In The System Ca0-A1203-B203

The optical properties of Ca0-Al203-B203 glasses are reported in this paper. The variation of refractive index, dispersion, ultra-violet absorption and density with composition is in agreement with previously published results on dielectric properties. Inflections in physical property curves are discussed in terms of formation of non-bridging oxygens. Infrared spectroscopy suggests the presence of boroxol groups up to 40 mol% Ca0. The tetraborate groups gradually diminish on increasing Ca0 concentration higher than 25 mol%.
