Optical Fibre Design For Field Mountable Connectors

This paper presents a study on optical fibre and connector ferrule assembly design optimisation aimed at minimising modal interference in field-mountable single-mode fibre connectors that utilise a ferrule mounted short fibre stubs and integrated splices. A theoretical model for analysing the modal interference is proposed and verified experimentally.
