OI is reported to be investing US$20M to upgrade equipment at its James City County plant in Toano, Virginia, USA. The improvements, which have been made possible through state financial assistance and are planned to take place during the next 1-2 years, were announced by Governor Timothy M Kaine. "OI is seizing the opportunity to make the James City County plant stronger and more competitive. Together, we are working to keep jobs in the region and the Commonwealth during this challenging economic time," he said. The James City plant, which employs around 180 workers, is to receive US$54,000 from the state as part of its Virginia jobs investment programme to retrain employees on the upgraded equipment. Plant Manager Charles Cochrane thanked both James City County's economic development team and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
