Ocean Glass To Expand Into High-End Stemware Market

Ocean Glass, one of Thailand's leading manufacturers of glass tableware, is planning to diversify into the high end wine glass market in a bid to reach a broader range of consumers. MD Sunsanee Supatravanij confirmed that the company aims to expand its product lines to cover more value-added stem ware alongside its existing product segments - retail glass products for households and professional products for food services. In 2009, the company invested 1BN baht in a new factory equipped with advanced furnaces and technology from Japan and Germany. According to the company, it has the capability to produce lead-free and barium-free glass with high clarity. The firm introduced premium crystal wine glassware and accessories under the Lucaris brand in 2010 and reported great success, selling a million pieces worth a total of 300M baht. Around 80% of the Lucaris range is exported to Asian markets such as Hong Kong and Singapore, where wine consumption is rising. In 2010, the company saw total sales of 1.85BN baht, with annual growth of 10-15%.
