Objects With Murrinas

The murrina technique is probably best-known today for intricate, brightly-coloured decoration on earrings. The same effects of layered glass were familiar, however, to the glassmakers of Alexandria in Ancient Egypt. They established a style that was enthusiastically adopted by Roman craftsmen and then brought into modern times by Murano workshops. All these generations of glass workers have left a rich heritage of items that reveal the technique's surprising possibilities.
