O-I Resumes Production Of Glass Baby Bottles In Response To Health Concerns Over Bpa

O-I, the world's largest producer of glass bottles, has resumed US production of glass baby bottles for the first time in 20y, as manufacturers respond to consumer fears over the chemical bisphenol-A found in plastic bottles. Glass is also finding increasing use by retailers for organic food products to reflect the naturalness and freshness of the product inside. Glass is the only primary packaging material to be 100% recyclable into new glass containers without expensive reprocessing and is the only material classified as generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA). PepsiCo Inc and Coca-Cola Co, USA, are also experimenting with glass bottles as lightweighting is an important development in the glass industry. O-I recently helped to repackage Ardmore & Ballantine's Scotch whiskies & Beefeater gin.
