Numerical Simulation Of Glass Melting Furnaces: A Review

Although glass is one of the oldest materials know to man, the interaction between physico-chemical processes taking place inside the furnace is yet to be understood. However, with the introduction of 3D numerical system modeling, quantification of interactive processes became a reality in the mid- 1980s. The objective of this paper is to review the literature on glass melting process, emphasizing the numerical studies published in the last decade. Recent developments in the general CFD trends, along with some important experimental studies on glass are also discussed.
