The presence of bubbles in the final glass is one of the main defect problems faced by the glass industry. Because of bubbles a sizeable proportion of glass products may need to be recycled before leaving the plants causing considerable waste of energy, time and financial resources. Therefore, understanding bubble behaviour in glass melts is a very important first step in attempting their reduction in the final glass. The overall objective of this study was to contribute to these efforts by analysing the problem in four parts.
