Finite element analysis provides detailed insight into understanding the formation and magnitude of thermal stresses experienced by glass furnace refractories. This understanding will help in the operation of expensive glass furnaces in the future and improve on trial and error procedures. Analysis of stresses in their different regions with consideration of creep and analysis of different refractory materials are important topics currently being addresed by researchers.
