Pilkington;s CE has been handed a new top role, heading a £3.5BN-turnover business for NSG, which bought the St. Helens glassmaker in 2006. Stuart Chambers, 50, is to take charge of a new global operation with 30,000 staff in 30 countries, making & supplying glass for buildings & vehicles. Operational from 1 April 2007, NSG's flat glass business will have factories in the UK, Japan, Malaysia & Vietnam. It will comprise Pilkington's operations & the similar activities of NSG. The group's other division, based in Tokyo, will produce glass for photocopiers, screens for TV sets & computers & fiber optic cables. Mr Chambers, who lives in Cheshire, was appointed CE of Pilkington in 2002 when he succeeded Paolo Scaroni. When Pilkington was taken over for £2.2BN June 2006, he became the first westerner to join NSG's board.
