Non-Oxide Glasses: From Fundamental Research To Applications In Photonics

Chemical compositions, physical properties and optical applications of non-oxide glasses are presented. The preparation of rare-earth-doped fluoride glass optical fibres and planar waveguides is also described, and results on optical amplification at telecommunication wavelengths are given. Chalcogenide glasses are of special interest for infrared bulk and fibre optics. Details on the optical sensing of chemical species by means of such chalcogenide fibres are given.
