No More Wine With A Corky Taste (In Italian)

A new washing technique for wine bottles has been developed by Italy's Certilab, overcoming problems associated with corking and the subsequent taste taint. The system involves washing the corks in a horizontal washing machine using a water-based suspension of Subemet, a non-toxic product developed specifically for the purpose. The principle of the process is based on selective adsorption of the compounds in the cork. The Subernet is patented and conforms to food standards, being safe both to use with foods and to be discharged in the drainage system after use.
