Nitrided Phosphate Glasses For Soldering Applications

Single and mixed alkali phosphate glasses have been nitrided in a dry ammonia atmosphere. Nitrogen incorporation kinetics were studied in order to fix the nitrogen content limits as function of temperature and time of thermal treatment. Thermal expansion coefficient, softening temperature and chemical durability of the nitrided glasses have been investigated with the aim of developing these glasses for sealing high and medium expansion coefficient materials.
