2013 marks the 10th anniversary of the first installations of electrochromic (EC) glazings in buildings. Since 2003 significant progress has been made in EC production capabilities and product performance, and the scale of installations has grown significantly. Architectural market adoption is continuing to grow, based on proven in-field performance, with EC products now installed around the world over four continents. Currently, new high volume manufacturing facilities for EC glazings are being brought online, which promise to deliver significant economies of scale and the next generation of products with new capabilities that will serve to accelerate market adoption further. This article review the advances in EC glazing performance and features that are now available and how these further enhance architectural design freedom without compromising energy efficiency or occupant comfort.
