[New Zealand] Oi To Invest Heavily In Bottle Expansion

Screw tops versus corks, bottles versus cans. Every wine and beer drinker will have their preference, but there are definite winners: screw-top wine, bottled beer, and glassmaker OI New Zealand. At the beginning of August, OI announced plans to invest $80M to expand its former ACI glass factory in Auckland by 90,000/tpa and create an additional 35 new jobs. Once operational, output will reach 2.2M bottles/day. The expansion will include two new moulding machines and a third furnace. For many years OI has made around 90% of all wine bottles used in New Zealand, and has worked closely with the local industry to present wine in imaginative ways to domestic and international markets. Once, it was coloured wine bottles with various shapes, but since 2001, its screw-top bottles that have become all the rage.
