[New Zealand] Container Glass Hit As Wine Moves To Plastic

Yealands Estate, a Marlborough vineyard has announced that it intends to use plastic bottles for its wine. The winemaker has put its first batch of Full Circle sauvignon blanc in plastic bottles, which the company say are more environmentally friendly than glass bottles. The bottles will carry an 18m "best-before" date because of the possibility of oxygen spoiling the wine. The company says the plastic bottles use 19% less energy to produce than glass bottles. Peter Yealands said the move was in line with his goal of owning the most sustainable winery in the world.
