The oxy-fuel technology for glass melting has been industrially introduced at the at the beginning of the 90s. The main reason was the necessity to respect tighter and tighter limits for emissions of NOx in the atmosphere. Looking back for a while it could be useful to understand why the high potential of this technology has been limited in the industrial application. This paper will try to investigate the reasons of this partial success and will try to identify new solutions to offer to the market.
