Hyperporous materials such as silica aerogels, which are chemically completely inert, are very suitable for the packaging of liquids, like propergols, perfumes and cosmetics or of water, through their gelation by them. This is due to their high porous volumes combined with their tailor-made hydrophobic or hydrophylic surface properties. Porosities of the order of 97% are easily attained.
