Furnace heating specialist Kanthal has launched a new silicon carbide heating element. The Globar SD has high mechanical strength, a lower rate of reaction with the process atmosphere and a longer life potential than existing products the Hot Rod, Silit ED and Globar LL. The elements are extruded from a blend of high purity silicon carbide grain which is recrystallised to form a self bonded structure with uniform heating characteristics. They are less porous than other Kanthal elements and have a relatively large grain size, reducing the total surface area of silicon carbide that is exposed to the furnace atmosphere, which in turn decreases the rate of resistance increase. Globar SD elements are available as straight rods or as multi-leg, in a range of sizes that are made in one or three-piece construction. See: www.kanthal.com for more information.
