New Float Plant To Be Built In Turkmenistan

The Ministry of Construction, the construction materials industry of Turkmenistan, Chinese consortium Capital-Lonqji Sci-Tech Co., Ltd and SINOMASCH have signed a contract for the turnkey construction of a glassworks in the Turkmenistan capital of Ashgabat. As reported on www.turkmenistan.ru with reference to the State News Service (TDH), the total cost of the project is US$ 67.38M. The facility should be commissioned in February 2009. China's Export-Import Bank will issue a soft credit to finance the project. The new plant will be built near the bypass road in the northern part of Ashgabat. Built by the Chinese partners, it will become the largest plant in the region and will mainly use locally produced raw materials. On reaching full capacity, the Ashgabat glass-works will annually produce 5.8 million square meters of 4 mm thick float glass, 85 million units of various glass containers and 300 thousand square meters of double-glazing units, including tinted glass units. The production complex will also house a silica sand enrichment plant.
