New Developments From Weigand

Through an R&D partnership Wiegand has developed a coating process for glass containers. The container is coated with a 0.005 mm thin polymer & its internal pressure strength is increased by 50 %. Furthermore, with this coating, it is also possible to reduce the bottle weight by up to 30 %. By colouring the polymer, it is possible to produce the bottles in the desired colour. Also frosted effects can now be accomplished economically & in an environmentally friendly way. Also, Wiegand modified the cold-end surface treatment by coating & spraying the bottle after the lehr, therefore giving the surface a higher scratch resistance. Scuffing marks are minimized. This process has been patented.
