New Developments In The Glass Forming Process

The University of Freiberg, together with other German glass producers are looking at the development of thin glass containers, with improved properties, with the vision of a one step forming process for glass container production. The fundamental task is to decrease the weight of the product, while maintaining or even optimising its properties, because energy used and emissions are directly linked to the weight. In the past, this strategy has been followed by developing the NNPB process and other techniques, but with cheap energy in the recent past, these activities were not continued and now it seems to be the time to start a new approach.
