Neutron Reflectivity As A Tool For The Characterization Of Homogenous And Inhomogeneous Single-Layer Coatings On Glass

A collimated monochromatic neutron beam can be used to investigate by reflection the surface morphology of glass, (especially architectural or automotive) and other materials. A refractive index corresponding to the wavelength of the incident beam is assumed by the material while reflection and refraction of the radiation at the material surface conform to the laws of geometric optics. In the case of single or multiple-layer coatings on glass, neutron reflectivity allow the structure of the coating to be evaluated.
