National Recycling/Composting Target - Results For 2003/4

The Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, Margaret Beckett, has confirmed that England is poised to meet its national recycling and composting target of 17% in 2003/4. This announcement was accompanied by the publication of local authority recycling and composting rates for 2003/4. The figures released by the British environment ministry showed that the recycling and composting rate had increased by 3 percentage points. More detailed information on current household waste management practices, and confirmation of the national recycling and composting rate for 2003/4 will be released in the Municipal Waste Management Survey later this year.
