Multilayer Optical Coatings For Conservation Glass: Colour Rendering Optimisation

Multilayer optical coatings on glass offer a good solution to cut radiation wavelengths that are potentially dangerous for artwork conservation. A properly designed coating could also reduced the residual reflection of un coated glass that disturbs the observer view. As compared to a traditional antireflection coating, it is important that these coatings preserve an optimal colour rendering. Without this feature even the protection performance would not be accepted by the observer. In this paper, the colour rendering of multi-layer coatings on glass that could be useful for artwork protection is investigated.
