German-based Precitec Optronik has recently introduced the CHRocodile MPS optical multi-point sensor which simultaneously measures wall thickness at 24 different points. The line scan probe delivers 10 thickness measurements at a time, with support for additional optical point scan sensors. Therefore, the measurement time is significantly reduced due to the increased amount of surface covered at the same time. "One of the strong points of the multi-point sensor is its ability to measure the wall thickness along a line, whereas previously you had to rely on singular points." said Dr J Schulze, Deputy Sales Manager. "The 24 measuring channels, read in parallel, are furthermore allowing any combination of optical point and line scan probes.
