The government of Mozambique is keen to breathe new life into the country's packaging industry, with bottles for soft drink producers a priority. Mozambique does already have a number of packaging producers but many are linked to major clients, forcing smaller companies to seek their bottles & other packaging supplies outside the country. The situation was even worse in rural areas, the Minister of Industry & Trade, Antonio Fernando, told an international conference on opportunities in the packaging industry, held in Maputo. The event was organised by the Inst for the Promotion of Small & Medium-sized Companies, a government-led organisation. Fernando said that boosting the quantity & quality of local packaging would be in line with government policy to maximise local sourcing, both for domestic consumption & export.
