Modern Photoelastic Technology For Residual Stress Measurement In Glass

This paper gives a review of the modern photoelastic technology for residual stress measurement in various glass products including glass articles of complicated shapes. For residual stress measurement in axisymmetric glass articles integrated photoelasticity is being used already by many glass firms and research laboratories. In the case of non axisymmetric glass articles of complicated shapes, photoelasticity tomography is to be used. For automotive glass and glass panels used in buildings, most complete stress analysis can be carried out with the scattered light method. This paper illustrates some examples.
