A series of Mineral Planning Factsheets are produced by the BGS (British Geological Survey). Originally commissioned to support the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) research project "Industrial Minerals: Issues for Planning" the factsheets cover economically important minerals that are extracted in Britain. They are regularly updated and provide an overview of the supply of a specific mineral. They are primarily intended to inform the land-use planning process but will be of much wider interest. Factsheets are available on: Alternative fossil fuels (Oct 2011); Gypsum (Jan 2006); Ball clay (Updated Jun 2011); Industrial dolomite (Jan 2006); Barytes (Jan 2006); Industrial limestone (Jan 2006); Brick clay (Feb 2007); Kaolin (Updated Sep 2009); Building and roofing stone (Mar 2007); Metals (Updated Oct 2015); Calcite (Aug 2004); Miscellaneous (2005); Cement raw materials (May 2014); Natural hydraulic limes (Mar 2005); Coal (Updated Aug 2010); Onshore oil and gas (1.7 Mb) (Updated Apr 2011); Construction aggregates; (June 2013); Potash (Updated Apr 2011); Fireclay (Oct 2006); Salt (Jan 2006); Fluorspar (March 2010); Silica sand (Sep 2009); Fuller's earth (Jan 2006); and, Underground storage (Feb 2008).
