Vitro presented awards to 19 schools in Allende & 11 in General Terán, Nuevo León, Mexico, for their successful glass-recycling campaigns; together the kindergarten, elementary, highschool, & technical institutions in the two cities collected a total of 182,370 glass containers weighing 73 tons. As only 23% of the nearly 2.5M/t of glass produced in Mexico is recycled, programs such as these contribute significantly to a culture of recycling & environment protection, according to Vitro. "Allende Recycles" & "For a more transparent General Terán" are 2 of the 78 recycling programs that Vitro coordinates across Mexico with public & private schools organizations, & municipal, state agencies. 19 schools participated in the 3rd phase of the program. Vitro recognized all of them for collecting a total of 140,883 glass containers, or 56/t, a 400% increase over phase 2.
