Method And Apparatus For Preventing Float Glass Defets

Float glass defects, caused by molten metal which has evaporated from exposed areas on the float bath condensing on the floating glass ribbon, are prevented by covering the molten metal at either side of the glass ribbon with finely divided carbonaceous material, which floats on the bath. The material which does not adversely affect either the glass or molten metal by feeding into the bath, below its surface, or in form of cloth or felt.
