The prospect of consumers drinking increasingly out of bottles rather than cans should have metal packaging aficionados running scared. If it doesn't, that may be because many of them believe that, in future, a growing proportion of those bottles will be made of metal - more specifically, aluminium - and will be produced on can making lines. This article examines how European can makers are chasing the Holy Grail of a cost-effective aluminium bottle, but are playing their cards close to their chests!
