As a melting and refining aid for commercial glass, blast furnace slag has found perhaps one of its most sophisticated applications. The usefulness of a slag depends on its chemical composition, the ironworks cast-house operations, and the subsequent processing and benefiting practices used. The glass industry, particularly the float sector, has legitimate concerns about the possible deleterious effects of this material when it is not strictly controlled in both its production and application.
