The strength of coated flat glass (architectural enamels) and dishwasher durability of decoration on glass tableware were investigated with commercial glasses and enamels. The effects of composition, pigment content, enamel grain size, thermal expansion, melting behaviour and surface conditions on the physical and chemical properties were established and proposals made for improving enamel performance.
