The challenge for many producers is determining if energy is being managed well and used as efficiently as possible. To help companies evaluate the efficiency of their plants, the US Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star programme has developed tools to benchmark the energy performance of flat and container glass plants in the USA. Energy Star is the voluntary, nationally-recognised symbol of energy efficiency and environmental production. Energy is a major cost for flat and container glass producers in the USA. When energy is carefully controlled and managed, producers reduce their financial risk and improve profitability, as explained in this article.
