A mathematical model of the drawing process of glass capillary tubes is developed which is based onr eal, acceptable and critically analysed assumptions. To simplify a modelling procedure, three basic zones of the process are discussed separately. The results obtained enable a certain insight into the dynamics of the drawing process, but for the complete understanding of a process taking part in the draw down zone it is necessary to solve a very complex system of nonlinear partial differential equations. The presence of the pure time delay which characterises the dynamics of all three zones of the drawing process is also evident.
