Glass prices have remained stable despite the recession; recycled cullet has even risen in value over last year. This rise is a continued trend seen during the past decade, with prices increasing since 2000. The material experienced a steady rise in price towards the end of 2008, which flattened but did not dip into November and December, when many other materials felt the effects of the wider economic slowdown. Volumes of material across all cullet colours are stable even though traders report that there has been a slight change in collection methods. New figures for collections and processing should be available from the Environment Agency March. The domestic glass market is still hungry for material. One trader said: "The supply and demand for recycled glass depends on the weather and the mood of the public. A good summer lifts people and they drink more and go out more. But in this current ecomonic climate, people's mood is more down than up".
