Despite its relatively small area and high population density, the UK retains a number of key industrial minerals operations serving domestic and global markets, supplying large industrial consumers in the glass, paint, polymer, chemicals, paper and plastics industries. In terms of domestic minerals production in volume and value, the market is dominated by kaolin and ball clays, silica sand, lime/limestone/dolomite, potash, salt and gypsum. The UK also hosts Brunner Mond, the second largest soda ash producer in Europe.
