The GT/NG-DI Dual Impulse underport burner, manufactured by Laidlaw Drew, uses co-axial jets in which the centre jet flow is adjustable by means of a special calibrated metering valve attached to the burner. By altering the gas to the centre jet, the thrust of the burner can be controlled allowing the flame length to be varied by 30%, without changing the nozzle, thus allowing easy optimisation of the flame. The arrangement also increases the flame luminosity providing greater heat transfer to the glass, as well as lower NOx emissions. A small computer program supplied with these burners allows accurate prediction of the burner performance. According to Laidlaw Drew, its burner sealing ring eliminates cold induced air around the burner, increasing efficiency, minimising NOx and prolonging nozzle and burner block life.
