Midlothian Council officials have met with the administrators of glassware firm Edinburgh Crystal to offer support for staff made redundant earlier this week. Councillor Adam Montgomery said he was hopeful that a buyer for the business can be found. He said: "Edinburgh Crystal has been an important company to this area & the loss of 70 local jobs is significant. We want to assist Edinburgh Crystal's staff as much as possible & also to support the company as far as we can in their search for a buyer. The development comes as Caithness Glass, the parent firm of Edinburgh Crystal, has also gone into administration. Caithness Glass, which makes & sells paperweights & glass gifts, has its head office & manufacturing plant in Perth.
