Losses Reported For Ardagh

The Irish Independent revealed a report to bond holders showed Ardagh had had to pay a EUR 37M restructuring charge related to redundancies. Revenue in the 3m to end-March had fallen by 10% to EUR 284.4M (£247m). EBITDA fell by 24% to EUR 48.2M. Ardagh's turnover in the UK fell by 17% to EUR 66.7M for the same period, the newspaper said, while eurozone container glass revenues decreased by 5%. Ardagh was not available to comment on the report. Irish-owned Ardagh is Europe's third largest glass packaging firm, having bought a number of firms in the UK in the past 10 years, including Rockware, Redfearn and Rexam's glass operations. It rebranded operations to the group identity in 2007. In March & April 2009, it was embroiled in a High Court case over planning permission for rival Quinn Glass' plant in Cheshire. Quinn is currently appealing the resulting enforcement notice.
