Long-Term Durability Of Flat Panel Displays For Automotive Applications

Flat panel displays for instrument panels, navigation modules and other information display devices for mobile vehicles are exposed to mechanical, thermal and vibrational loads during both transient and steady-state operating conditions. Their long-term durability is dictated by the stress/time history experienced by AMLCD glass substrate which, in turn, depends on its fatigue and fracture properties as well as on the mounting design of display devices. This paper persents new data for static and dynamic fatigue behaviour of five different AMLCD glasses which help evaluate their relative performance under prescribed loads, boundary conditions and operating environment.
