On-Line Quality Assurance In Float Glass Cutting

From the beginning of float glass production, manufacturers have strived for ways to evaluate the quality of the uncut glass ribbon on-line. Traditionally, off-line inspection has provided the earliest opportunity to evaluate the glass' quality but these "belated" inspections only allow a sample of the glass plates to be tested. With this in mind, the QS-Centre "Float" system has been developed. This paper describes its operation.
