On-Line Oxygen Sensor For The Tin Bath In Float Glass Production Lines

A special oxygen sensor has been developed for the continuous measurement of the equilibrium oxygen pressure and oxygen content in the molten tin in the float bath of the float glass production line. The measuring principle and sensor design are explained. Float glass surface detects like tin pick-up, bloom, scum and tin drops are directly or indirectly caused by too high oxygen levels in the molten tin. Measurements by means of the on-line oxygen sensor are presented. These examples illustrate the merit of such sensor to limit or even prevent defects by a better control of the bath atmosphere.
