Lightweight Automotive Glass

The barriers to using thinner glazing are the lack of understanding about its structural interaction with the car body, and about the impact of thinning the glazing on its static strength, its stone impact resistance, and its performance in its other roles be they optical, thermal, or acoustic. This paper reports on recent developments that aid in engineering thinner and lighter auto glazing products that will be practical and have the same or better performance than what is currently in use.
